The Halasuru Gate police have booked members of the BBMP Pourakarmika Sangha for staging a protest at the BBMP head office without prior permission.

The police booked Nirmala, president of the Sangha, along with seven members, charging them under the Karnataka Police Act for ‘inciting pourakarmikas to stage a snap protest, creating panic and disruption among the general public’.

Hundreds of pourakarmikas had, on Tuesday, gathered at the BBMP headquarters to protest against the civic body’s decision to regularise only 4,000 posts among 18,000 pourakarmikas working across the city.

It may be recalled that Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao had issued an order directing protesters to seek prior permission from the jurisdictional police before organising a protest or rally.
