BBMP meet focuses on increasing tax collection

October 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:07 am IST - BENGALURU:

Bringing more properties under the tax net, collecting property tax and cess from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. and various government institutions, was the main topic of discussion at the BBMP council meeting here on Thursday. As councillors were debating on means to increase property tax collections, they wondered if any tax/cess was being collected from the Vidhana Soudha. Even as Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy sought clarifications from officials, Opposition Leader Padmanabha Reddy had a suggestion: “Let us go with the officials and lock up the building… only then will any tax be collected from the Vidhana Soudha.” Jayamahal councillor M.K. Gunashekar said, “The road on which Namma Metro lines run belongs to the BBMP. Yet, BMRCL doesn’t pay any property tax.” He pushed for higher tax on all of commercial properties in the city.
