BBMP council discusses water scarcity

The BBMP council on Saturday discussed water scarcity and Opposition BJP members boycotted the meeting when their questions on water supply were not addressed satisfactorily.

Ruling party leader Abdul Wajid said though BWSSB claimed there was enough water, residents of many areas complained about inadequate or poor supply.

Opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy blamed BWSSB for not preparing for the summer. “BWSSB officials claim they can’t pump water because of power supply issues. Before the onset of summer, the BWSSB should have coordinated with Bescom,” he said.

He also said BWSSB had claimed that it would provide water, if the tankers could be arranged by the BBMP. “Who is going to foot the fuel cost?” he asked.

BBMP Special Commissioner D. Randeep said the civic body would seek exemption under the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act, 1999, and float tenders for the supply of water through tankers within three days.
