Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cleared bills of contractors totalling Rs. 3.7 crore, which were pending from the past two years, following protests by tree cutting teams working under the BBMP’s Forest Department.

Thirteen teams comprising 120 tree cutters, who play a crucial role clearing roads of fallen trees during rains, had been on strike from Monday as bills from 2013 to November 2014 were pending. This threatened to derail the monsoon preparedness of BBMP, days before the monsoon is set to hit the city.

BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik told The Hindu that he had cleared the bills on Tuesday.
