February 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 86-year old I. Anthappa, an accused in the murder of rector K.J. Thomas, on the condition that he should surrender before the police within 20 days.

In his order, Justice A.V. Chandrashekara said Fr. Anthappa was granted anticipatory bail considering his age and the police should release him on furnishing a bail bond of Rs. 2 lakh. He was directed to cooperate with the police investigation.

Denied bail

Meanwhile, the court refused anticipatory bail to Rita Reeni, another accused in the case. “It is premature to disbelieve the material witnesses collected by the police against Ms. Reeni,” the court said while refusing advance bail.
