A 53-year-old man, who was being questioned in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old woman last month, was hospitalised after he took poison at his residence in Hanumanthanagar on Tuesday.

Manjunath, who runs a provision store in Nanjappa Block near murder victim Manasa’s house, went home, leaving his wife, Geeta, to manage the shop. When she called later, he did not answer. A worried Geeta rushed home to find the door locked. She informed neighbours, who broke into the house. They saw him unconscious and a bottle of poison beside him.

Manjunath was immediately rushed to hospital. Manjunath’s relatives alleged he was being harassed by the police during the ongoing investigation into the case where Manasa was found strangled to death on March 19. Geeta also said he had been continuously summoned to the police station for the past two weeks. The constant questioning had humiliated him, leading to depression. K.G. Nagar police denied harassment and said Manjunath was not being cooperative.
