The dinner outing for the family of a 43-year-old autorickshaw driver turned tragic after he was killed when he was knocked down by a two-wheeler on the Lingarajapuram flyover near Hennur Main Road.

The deceased Shyam Kumar, a resident of Kushal Nagar in K.G. Halli, had left home with his wife Vimala and five-year-old daughter Rakshitha, in his autorickshaw to have dinner. As it was past 11 p.m., they could not find any restaurants open nearby and so they proceeded towards Lingarajapuram.

On the way however, his autorickshaw broke down on the flyover and Shyam went to check on the engine at the rear of the auto. A two-wheeler which was speeding on the flyover, hit Shyam, crushing him against the auto. He sustained serious injuries on his face and head and was rushed to a nearby hospital by his family and passersby.

Shyam was later shifted to Bowring Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The two-wheeler rider who also helped shift him to the hospital, however, fled from the premises before being noticed by others. Based on the complaint filed by the family, the Frazer Town police have booked a case and are on the lookout for the bike rider.

Two injured

In another incident, a woman and her son were injured when their two-wheeler was hit by a tractor in Bagalkunte in Peenya traffic police limits on Friday morning.

The police said that the woman, identified as Manju (31), was riding the two-wheeler while her children Prem Kumar (12) and Sreeju (5) were riding pillion. She was on her way to drop them to school. The tractor hit the two-wheeler due to which the trio fell down on the road. While Manju sustained injuries on her back, her son Prem Kumar’s left knee was dislocated. The five-year-old escaped without injuries.

They were rushed to a hospital by passersby. The Peenya police who were alerted have seized the tractor which was abandoned by the driver who fled soon after the accident.
