The office of a BBMP contractor on Church Street was ransacked by a group of men, allegedly led by the aide of a local politician. The gang, led by Sameer Sait, allegedly assaulted an accountant Ganesh C.S., 24.
The gang allegedly snatched three blank cheques from Ganesh. They have the signature of the contractor Hardik Gowda.
In his complaint to the Cubbon Park police on Friday, Ganesh alleged that Sait had extorted money from his employer in the past after he was awarded a contract for a road work project at Shivajinagar. He told the police that Sait threatened to prevent him from carrying out the work unless he was paid protection money.
Hardik Gowda paid up, but Sait allegedly continued to harass him for more money.
“In his statement, Ganesh said that unable to bear the harassment, Hardik refused to pay him, following which the office was ransacked,” said the police.
The police filed an FIR against Sait charging him under Sections 394 (robbery), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Efforts are on to track him down.
