Lokayukta sleuths on Saturday caught an Assistant Public Prosecutor while he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000.

According to the police, V. Subramani, the complainant in this case, had approached the Lokayukta alleging that Assistant Public Prosecutor Raju was demanding Rs. 50,000 to scrutinise a charge sheet.

One of Subramani's relatives had filed a complaint with the Varthur police, who had prepared a charge sheet and submitted it to the court. Raju, who was supposed to handle the case, demanded Rs. 50,000 from Subramani's relative to scrutinise the charge sheet and had allegedly taken Rs. 20,000 in advance. When Raju started demanding more money, Subramani approached the police seeking help. Based on the complaint, a team of officials arrested Raju in his office red-handed. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Lokayukta officials said.
