A helicopter said to belong to Army Aviation Corps made an emergency landing at a field in Kanakapura taluk near Bengaluru, initial reports said.

The crew is safe; police and technical support teams reached the spot, it is learnt. Details were awaited from the Ministry of Defence.

The aircraft was said to be a Rudra, the attack or weaponised Mk IV version of the Indian light copter ALH customised for the Army's air wing. A few aircraft have been inducted and in the Army's service since 2013.

The spokesman for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd — which developed the Rudra and is building some more copters for the Army and the Air Force — said HAL had flown a technical team to the site to give support. “According to our information it was a precautionary landing,” he said.
