Areas too big to manage

January 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

The jurisdiction of a police station is drawn on the basis of the population.

This has led to a situation where police stations in the central part of the city have smaller jurisdictions while those on the outskirts have to cover large areas that have become unmanageable, says a police officer.

According to him, community policing has become more of a necessity in police stations that have to cover large areas and has been a success.

However, now there is a proposal to divide some police stations, such as Jnana Bharathi and Subramanyapura, into multiple stations for effective policing.
