Work is in full progress and there is a power cut. Frustrating as it is, unscheduled power cuts have a major impact on businesses. To deal with this grouse, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has turned to the modest mobile phone, offering an app that promises to pacify frayed nerves.

Called the ‘Load Monitoring and Alert (LMA) and Solar Demand Side Management (DSM) Application,’ the power utility’s app enables HT and solar PV consumers to monitor their load on real-time basis and access historical values through data collected from smart meters.

Among other things, the Android app is expected to provide notifications and alerts when allocated load is breached, when the power factor is below a given value and when consumption pattern changes. Significantly, consumers are also being promised outage alerts and notifications.

In addition, HT and Solar PV consumers can set alerts to be notified in case of scheduled power outages, due date alert for bill payment and view their outstanding bills and payment status, gain better understanding of their usage, and submit service requests and grievances, a release said. An online portal is expected to be provided shortly.
