The South-East Division police have arrested a 30-year-old quarry owner from Andhra Pradesh for posing as a Producer from the Kannada film industry and raping a television artiste from Mumbai by luring her with the offer of acting in a Kannada film in Bengaluru in March this year.

Police have identified the accused as Ehsan who has been arrested by the HSR Layout Police based on the complaint filed by the victim recently.

According to the Police, the accused along with two friends met the victim at a birthday party in Mumbai and lured the victim by offering a role in Kannada films.

The accused called the victim for screen test, booked air tickets for the victim from Mumbai to Bengaluru, and arranged for Hotel accommodation in Koramangala.

The victim demanded to meet the director of the movie when no intimation of screen test came for two days. The accused assured a guaranteed role in the movie and offered an advance amount of Rs. 1 lakh cheque.

However on the pretext of celebrating, the accused offered sedative-laced juice to the victim and later raped her. When the victim objected, the accused blackmailed her saying that the rape had been filmed.

The victim got back to Mumbai and deposited the cheque which bounced back due to insufficient fund. The victim, with the help of a city-based NGO, approached the Police who took up the case and managed to arrest Ehsan from his hometown.

The accused confessed to the crime and efforts are on to nab the two friends, who are on the run, Deputy Commissioner of police (South East), Rohini Katoch Sepat said.
