Members of the Lok Satta Party, citizens of Bangalore as well as residents of Mandur participated in a 22-km walkathon on Saturday, from the Mandur landfill to Domlur.
While most people walked for short distances, 50 participants completed the entire stretch.
It was “inhumane and immoral” to dump garbage on somebody else’s backyard, Anand Yadwad, member of the Lok Satta Party said. “We owe an apology to the people of Mandur.”
Mr. Yadwad said the walk aimed to raise awareness about garbage segregation.
The Lok Satta has drafted the a Karnataka urban muncipal solid waste management Bill 2012, which suggests that urban local bodies should not remove solid waste from their jurisdiction.
