The Chief Minister is likely to take a call on Ravivarma Kumar’s resignation upon his return from New Delhi.

The Chief Minister is likely to take a call on Ravivarma Kumar’s resignation upon his return from New Delhi.

Advocate-General Ravivarma Kumar submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday.

According to the Chief Minister’s office, Prof. Kumar met Mr. Siddaramaiah at his official residence in Bengaluru before he left for New Delhi to submit his resignation letter.

While the resignation is yet to be accepted, sources said the Chief Minister is likely to take a call on it only after returning from New Delhi. While Prof. Kumar could not be reached, sources said he was dissatisfied over the government appointing two Additional Advocate-Generals, whose names he had not recommended.

The government had appointed Raghavendra Nadagouda as AAG for the Kalaburagi Bench of the Karnataka High Court and Devadat Kamat as AAG for the Supreme Court about three months ago.

This is not the first time that Prof. Kumar has put in his papers. In March 2014, he resigned when the government appointed two senior Counsel to argue before the Supreme Court with respect to the Cauvery and Krishna river waters disputes tribunals, without consulting him. However, he withdrew the resignation after being persuaded by the Chief Minister.
