Days after the news of Special Investigation Team chief Charan Reddy filing a report with Director General and Inspector General of Police R.K. Dutta seeking action against Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ajai Hilori for leaking legal intercepts to the media, it has come to light that Mr. Reddy has filed a complaint against former DCP H.D. Anand Kumar. In the complaint, filed a fortnight ago, Mr. Kumar has been accused of trying to help tainted IAS officer Gangaram Baderiya, who was arrested by the SIT in connection with Jantkal mining scam, get bail.

Baderiya was arrested for allegedly receiving kickbacks from the mining company to renew its license in 2007, when he was Director of the Mines and Geology Department.

In his complaint, Mr. Reddy has accused Mr. Kumar of interfering in the case and also pressuring the SIT counsel not to file objection, which would eventually help Baderiya get bail.

This is not the first time Mr. Kumar has come under the scanner for corruption. In December 2009, the official was trapped by Lokayukta while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a person for helping him in a forgery case.

Mr. Kumar, then the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Devanahalli sub division), was caught red-handed and arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act. The present DG&IGP was heading the Lokayukta Police wing during that time.

Last year, Mr. Kumar was again in the news for allegedly pocketing money he had seized during a raid at a gambling den in Indiranagar. An inquiry was ordered by City Commissioner N.S. Megharik, which is still pending.

He has been recently transferred to Tumakuru district as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
