Five persons from Tamil Nadu were arrested on Friday for supplying adulterated paneer in several parts of the city.

Based on a tip-off, a team of officials of the Fraud and Misappropriation Wing of the Central Crime Branch arrested the five and confiscated 1.5 tonnes of adulterated paneer that was being sold under different brand names.

Assistant Commissioner of Police G.T. Ajjappa said Subramani (32), Krishnamurthy (48), Shekhar (40), N. Rajendra (55) and Prashanth (20) used to get substandard paneer from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and sell it under brand names such as Mallai Paneer, Mallai Paneer Premium, Milk Gold Paneer, Joy Paneer, Vintyak Paneer, Ganga Gold Paneer and R.R. Paneer.

“We suspect that the paneer was being made using some chemicals. We have sent the samples to lab for tests,” Mr. Ajjappa said.

The police are on the look out for two more people from Dharmapuri involved in the racket.
