Ranga Shankara will screen Kahan Kahan Se Guzre (A Man Travelling Through Time) — a documentary directed by Masood Akhtar on the life and work of filmmaker and theatre director M.S. Sathyu.
The name itself is a play on Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya, the feature film directed by Mr. Sathyu in 1981, which starred Anil Kapoor, Pankaj Kapoor and Nitin Sethi.
Kahan Kahan Se Guzre is a documentary on the filmmaker's journey through theatre and cinema and his experiences while working with these visual forms. The film is divided into two parts, focussing on his association with theatre and cinema.
In their words
Beginning with montages from the octogenarian's life, the film shows visuals of his plays, and analyses his role as a theatre director and stage designer with sound bites from actors, directors and stalwarts of Indian theatre including Habib Tanvir, Vijaya Mehta, Saroj Setalvad, Sarita Joshi and Alyque Padamsee.
There is special reference to his award-winning film on Partition, Garam Hawa (1974), and the impact it created in the country.
Born in Mysore, Mr. Sathyu moved to Mumbai during the 1950s and directed several plays. He was associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA), Balraj Sahni's Juhu Art Theatre and other offshoots.
Dabbling in a range of activities including animation, documentary, television films and serials, designing and directing plays, he even wrote the script for a ballet before making Garam Hawa.
The two-hour documentary will be screened on February 12 at 10.30 a.m. Entry is free.
