Leader of the Opposition in legislative assembly Jagdish Shettar criticised the State the government and education department for hurrying to print revised text books without waiting for the report of Textbook Revision Committee headed by writer Baragur Ramachandrappa.
At a press conference here on Tuesday, he said the committee was yet to submit even its draft report. Such being the case, it was incomprehensible to see the government taking up printing of text books. “It seems the government is hurriedly printing textbooks to incorporate its hidden agenda, if the government has the copy of the report, let it first make it public.”
He said the government should not hurry on such crucial matters, impacting not just the educational growth of children but even their thought process. The government should first obtain the report and place it before the public and facilitate a threadbare debate on its recommendations.
Disciplinary action
When his attention was drawn towards his party’s (BJP) five-time Uttara Kannada MP Ananthkumar Hegde and four-time Kagwad MLA Bharamgouda alias Raju Kage were reportedly absconding and evading arrests in connection with the cases of assault on doctors in Sirsi and Congress worker in Ugar, respectively, Mr. Shettar said the party did not support such behaviour on the part of its members.
“Wrong is wrong, no matter who is the wrong-doer. Nobody should take law into their own hands. If they have committed any offence, the law would take its own course.”
Asked if the party had taken cognisance based on prima facie evidences and initiate disciplinary action, Mr. Shettar, who initially said the party would first obtain clarification from both Mr. Hegde and Mr. Kage and decide accordingly, subsequently said the matter would be taken up at the BJP State executive committee meet.
