Two journalists mugged, robbed

A gang of five armed men mugged a television journalist and his cameraman recently and robbed them of Rs. 2.5 lakh worth video camera and other valuables. The victims sustained severe injuries and were admitted to a hospital. The incident occurred at around 10.45 p.m. on Sathanur Road near Mahadeshwara Nagar in Chennapatna. The victims have been identified as Nagaraj and Sandeep, both working for a regional news channel.

According to the Chennapatna Rural Police, the two were on their way to cover an incident. The accused, an auto rickshaw driver, waylaid the victims and attacked them with razors. Before escaping, he snatched the video camera, three mobile phones, two gold rings, a gold chain and Rs. 12,000 in cash from them.

Some people who found Nagaraj and Sandeep lying in a pool of blood, took them to a nearby hospital. Later, in connection with the incident, the police arrested an auto rickshaw driver for allegedly robbing the television staff.

“We developed information about the accused and arrested him near Chennapatna on Tuesday morning. His accomplices are still absconding and the hunt is on to get them,” said an officer of the Chennapatna Rural police station.
