The cloud of doubt over the steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal to provide a seamless commute to Kempegowda International Airport is finally lifted.
Bangalore Development Authority is all set to finalise the tenders and award the contract this week.
Only two firms – Larson and Turbo and Navayuga Group – have qualified the technical bid for the project and they have submitted the financial bids, which are being ratified now.
P.N. Naik, engineering member, BDA, said both of them had bid more than the Rs. 1,350 crore that the BDA prepared Detailed Project Report estimated for. The bidder has to also procure the estimated 60,000 tonnes of steel required for the project.
“L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder for the project. But that can be finalised only after the ratification of costs of all individual components,” Mr. Naik said adding that the tender can be finalised only after it is placed before the BDA board and is approved.
The work on the steel flyover is expected to take two years but is unlikely to cause any traffic issues on the crucial road to the airport during the first one and a half years, as most work on the flyover will be prefabricated in a factory. The foundations laid and the pillars erected in the last six months, when the traffic is likely to be disrupted.
The steel flyover project will end up demolishing three flyovers, an underpass and two skywalks that are en route the alignment.
The Sankey road flyover near BDA office, the two flyovers at Veterinary College and CBI office junctions will be demolished apart from the now-closed-for-traffic magic box at Cauvery junction and two skywalks near Sofia School junction and near HMT Bhavan. The underpasses at Windsor Manor and Mehkri Circle will remain.
