The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of appeals filed by a woman advocate and three others to August 27, challenging a lower court verdict sentencing them to life in a murder case.

When the appeals came up before a Division Bench, comprising Justice Shridhar Rao and Justice B.V. Pinto, Special Public Prosecutor Venkat Rao sought time to file his appeal for enhancement of sentence.

“Since the State government is likely to file an appeal for enhancement of sentence, we are expecting a government order in this regard and once we get the order we will file the appeal”, he stated and sought time to file his appeal.

At this point the bench adjourned the hearing.

On July 14, the woman advocate Shubha and the other three accused, Arun Verma (her boyfriend), Venkatesh and Anand were sentenced to life by the 17th Fast Track Court for conspiring to kill B.V. Girish, Shubha’s fiancee, who was found brutally murdered on December 3, 2003.
