A disabled-friendly centre with training facilities to provide better rehabilitation services for children with special needs will soon become a reality here.

The foundation stone for a building of Sneha Kiran of Mysore Spastic Society at Bogadi here was laid on Friday.

Rotary International president nominee Kalyan Banerjee laid the foundation stone. Rotary Club of Mysore West, which is supporting the project, organised the function.

District Governor (RI District 3180) K. Ravi Appaji and members of the Rotary Club of Mysore West and Sneha Kiran Spastic Society were present.

Satyanarayana, Chamundeshwari MLA, who was the chief guest, said land should be provided to associations and organisations involved in charitable activities to take up welfare activities.

Sneha Kiran is now located at Metagalli industrial area here. Sixty children visit the centre regularly. However, owing to lack of adequate space and other reasons, the centre is unable to expand its services. A team of medical and paramedical professionals and special educators provide therapy, academic inputs and life-skills training to children and guidance to parents. The new building at Bogadi will help Sneha Kiran to expand its activities.

Mr. Banerjee also laid the foundation stone for the Rotary Mysore Educational Complex and the Activity Centre for Special Children at Dattagalli 3rd Stage.
