The discontent within the Bharatiya Janata Party has once again come to the fore with its former Karnataka unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda, MP, resigning from the post of director of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). Mr. Gowda had been nominated by the government as director of the apex milk cooperative.
When contacted by The Hindu on Monday, Mr. Sadananda Gowda confirmed that he had resigned. “I have sent copies of the resignation letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa and KMF chairman G. Somashekar Reddy.”
Mr. Sadananda Gowda said, “I do not want to continue as director of the KMF.” When asked if he was upset with the party leaders for not keeping their promise of making him KMF chairman, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said, “I do not have any such grouse. But I am not interested in continuing in this post.”
Speculation
The resignation has set off speculation that Mr. Sadananda Gowda is upset with the party for not providing him any suitable post after he completed his term as State unit president in January. It has come about at a time when the party is celebrating the second anniversary of the BJP government in the State and is indicative of the discontent brewing within the party. Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons that the issue would be discussed in the party forum and refused to comment.
Mr. Eshwarappa expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved through discussions with Mr. Gowda.
