Railway reservation counter opens to ease rush at city station building

The Bangalore Division of South Western Railway (SWR) on Friday threw open a dedicated Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) Centre in the renovated Passenger Reservation System (PRS) building at the City Railway Station here.

While the centre has been commissioned, it will be fully operational within two days, said an official release. Unreserved ticket counters were earlier located in the passenger concourse area in the station building and with this relocation, the concourse is relieved of excessive crowding.

Later in the day, SWR General Manager Kuldeep Chaturvedi and Bangalore's Divisional Railway Manager Sudhanshu Mani inspected the centre while Mr. Mani explained Bangalore Division's further plans for improvement of the station.

Future plans

Future plans include improving facilities at the second entry to the station and widening of the exit road, along with relocation of two-wheeler parking facility. The cloakroom at the station, where the facilities have been enhanced, was also inspected.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Chaturvedi inaugurated a modern Crew Booking Centre at the Satellite Goods Terminal, Whitefield. This centre has been provided with computerised arrangement for management of train drivers and guards. A Comprehensive Rail Consumer Depot for fuelling of locomotives, which replaced the earlier unsafe temporary arrangement, was also inaugurated at this terminal.

A first

At the Divisional Office, the General Manager inaugurated the Employee Information Kiosk, which is the first of its kind on Indian Railways, developed and placed not only in the Divisional Office but also at other major stations for the benefit of staff. All employee-related information can be accessed through individual PIN. Later, he inaugurated a renovated computerised pass section with waiting room facility for retired railway officials.
