RTE activists arrested

more-in

Two RTE activists, who were staging a protest in front of a private school in Kurubarahalli, were arrested on Wednesday night following a complaint by teachers alleging use of foul language.

Parents as well as other RTE activists alleged that the duo — Suresh Kumar and Kempe Gowda — have been implicated in a false case. The duo are parents of students who have got RTE quota seats in the school.

“It is a pity that school managements are going to such an extent and fabricating cases to suppress the voice of activists,” said Nagasimha G. Rao, convenor of the RTE Task Force.

Ajay Seth, Principal Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education, had earlier this week pointed out that the management should not force parents to buy books and uniforms from a specific vendor. He had, however, said that parents should bear the cost.
