The city police are planning to question Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) Chairman and Bellary city MLA G. Somashekara Reddy in connection with a kidnap and assault case.
Sitaram Shetty, Managing Director, Shankara Narayana Constructions Power Corporation, lodged a complaint on October 26, accusing Mr. Reddy of kidnapping, assaulting and forcing Prashanth, a manager in the company, not to submit tenders for construction of raw water ponds inside the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) at Kuditini.
Upparpet Inspector Lokeshwar registered a case under Sections 143, 341, 363, 323 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code against Mr. Reddy, Madhava Gowda, Managing Director of Hyderabad-based GVPR Constructions, and 18 others on October 24.
In his complaint, Mr. Shetty stated that Mr. Prashanth was taken to Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy’s residence on Race Course Road.
Mr. Somashekara Reddy snatched Mr. Prashanth’s mobile phone and allegedly roughed him up before threatening Mr. Sitaram Shetty against any move to start work in Bellary. Mr. Sitaram Shetty alleged that Mr. Somashekara Reddy was favouring GVPR Constructions.
The Upparpet police will question the KMF Chairman,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division) B. Shivakumar told The Hindu .
“Investigation is in progress and action against Mr. Somashekar Reddy and others will be taken if there is evidence,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chickpet Subdivision) M.K. Solabheswarappa said.
According to an officer familiar with the investigation, the Upparpet police are questioning several persons in connection with the incident. It includes the security personnel on duty at Mr. Karunakara Reddy’s house on October 24. The Upparpet police have sent requisitions to mobile service providers seeking call details of everyone connected with the alleged incident, including the victims as well as the accused.
Accidents
A 29-year-old medical shop owner died after his motorcycle was hit by a lorry on MKK Road on Wednesday. Malleswaram traffic police identified him as Pramod Parmar, a resident of Srirampuram, who is survived by wife Vijayata and 18-month-old daughter.
In another accident, 60-year-old Subbaiah Naidu died on the spot when he was hit by a Tempo van near Dattatreya Temple in Hoskerehalli of Banashankari Traffic Police station limits.
