New bus services launched

November 06, 2010 04:17 pm | Updated 04:17 pm IST - Bangalore:

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Thursday observed its 10th Bus Day by flagging off three new routes from Sharadambanagar near Jalahalli to J.P. Nagar 6th Phase, Jayanagar 9th Block and Kempe Gowda Bus Station.

Transport Minister R. Ashok, who launched the services, travelled in a bus, interacted with passengers and listened to their grievances before alighting at Malleswaram.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ashok said: “With the inauguration of these services, commuters from this part of the city need not change buses (either at Kempe Gowda or Shivajinagar bus stations) to reach their stops. This will also help promote the use of public transport, thereby reducing pollution in the city. We are trying to wean people, especially the middle class, away from private transport. We have introduced luxury buses, including Mercedes Benz and Volvo. This will help reduce traffic density and increase BMTC's revenue.”
