Namoshi likely candidate

August 23, 2010 05:22 pm | Updated 05:22 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The Bharatiya Janata Party State unit is learnt to have forwarded the names of MLC Shashil Namoshi and Vishwanath to its central election committee for clearance to contest as party candidates for the by-elections from Gulbarga and Kadur Assembly constituencies, respectively.

Sources in the party said their names were expected to be cleared by the party central election committee anytime as it was only a formality.

The by-elections are being held due to the death of the MLAs from these constituencies, Chandrashekhar Patil Revur (Gulbarga-South) and K.M. Krishna Murthy (Kadur). While Mr. Revur belonged to the BJP, Mr. Murthy was from the Congress.

The by-elections are scheduled to be held on September 13 and the last date for filing nomination papers is August 25.
