Man tells police he axed younger brother to death

Angered by his brother’s addiction to alcohol, a 22-year-old youth hacked his younger sibling to death at Madanayakanahalli on the city’s outskirts on Wednesday.

Umashankar, a labourer, surrendered to the police with the machete allegedly used in the killing. According to the police, his brother Hemanth Kumar, unemployed and an alcoholic, used to harass their mother for money.

On Wednesday, she and Hemanth got into a heated argument over his demand for money. This angered Umashankar who picked up the machete and killed his brother. The mother screamed in shock, bringing the neighbours to the house. Umashankar surrendered to the Nelamangala rural police.

Dies in hit-and-run

A real estate agent was killed on the spot in a hit-and-run at Banaswadi early Thursday.

Robin (38), returning from Kerala, was walking homeward in P.N.S. Layout near Kullappa Circle at around 5.15 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

Passersby rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Robin was single and owned a real estate office in Banaswadi.

Bus kills rider

In another accident Wednesday evening a mechanic on his way to meet his friends was killed when his motorcycle was knocked down by a BMTC bus on Bhattarahalli service road in K.R. Puram on Wednesday. Abidulla Khan (27), a resident of Medahalli, was rushed to Bowring Hospital but died later. The bus driver fled. The police seized the bus.

Hit by cab

An accountant in a private firm was killed on the spot when he was hit by a speeding travel agency maxi cab in Electronics City on Thursday.

D. Manjunatha (48), a resident of Venkatapura, was on his way to work around 8.45 a.m. on his motorcycle when the cab knocked him down near Konena Agrahara. It then rammed into some barricades and before slamming into a stationary car at the traffic lights.

A grievously injured Manjunath was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead. He is survived by his wife and a son.
