In a case of mistaken identity, a city-based private firm employee was allegedly beaten up by HBR Layout ward councillor and his associates in Kariyannanapalya in Banasawadi on Wednesday.

The victim, Giri Keshav, filed a complaint with the police accusing councillor P. Anand and his associates for beating him.

In his complaint, Mr. Giri said he had gone to drop his girlfriend and was talking to her near Mr. Anand's house. He hugged her and was about to leave when Mr. Anand came and shouted at him for creating public nuisance and tried to videotape Mr. Giri and his girlfriend on his mobile phone.

Heated argument ensued, following which Mr. Anand's associate beat him up.

It may be recalled that a girl was sexually assaulted by two bike-borne men in a nearby area coming under the Banasawadi police jurisdiction in the early hours of Monday.
