Lobbying for mayoral posts begins in Bengaluru

August 26, 2015 08:21 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:27 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Even before the results were declared on Tuesday, lobbying had begun for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Some aspirants rushed to the BJP head office in Malleswaram to take part in the celebrations and rub shoulders with the top brass. Many also made it to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) where BJP national president Amit Shah made a brief stopover in the evening.

This time, the posts are reserved for general category and general category (woman), respectively. Frontrunners for the mayor’s post include Padmanabha Reddy, a fourth-time councillor from Kacharakanahalli; L. Srinivas (Kumaraswamy Layout), former Deputy Mayor; N. Nagaraju (Byrasandra), and Kodanda Reddy, a second-time councillor from Banaswadi.

However, there no clear frontrunner for the post of Deputy Mayor.

The former Mayor N. Shanthakumari is the senior-most woman councillor-elect from the BJP.
