Law Minister visits kin of woman who was knocked down by Sudanese national

The city police have arrested innocent people in connection with the attack on Tanzanian students, Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said.

Mr. Gowda visited the house of Shabana Taj, who was killed after being knocked down by a Sudanese student on Sunday night. While Shabana was crushed under the wheels, her husband sustained multiple fractures. After this incident, locals burnt the car and manhandled a group of Tanzanian students who were in the area a short while after. Residents gheroed Mr. Gowda seeking his help to get the accused released.

In the melee, wife of the prime accused Lokesh Bangaru collapsed due to exhaustion and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Lokesh was among the five persons arrested by the police in connection with the case. Lokesh is a gram panchayath member of Chikkabanawara belonging to BJP party.

Mr. Gowda blamed the State government stating that the government which provide high security cover for every VIP visits failed to protect the interest of the people.

The government should also ensure that the foreign students abide the law and also ensure their safety too, he said.
