Flipkart may be failing, but thanks to e-commerce, Speed Post tops the list of revenue earners for Karnataka Circle of India Post.

The Karnataka Circle was awarded the first position for generating the highest revenue of Rs. 206.28 crore under the Speed Post services for 2014–15 in the country.

In fact, it bettered its position during 2015-16 by posting a revenue of Rs. 269.42 crore.

E-tailers’ growing preference for India Post’s wider reach, and its well-entrenched network has taken the circle to the top. India Post has round-the-clock booking system for Speed Post in 20 major cities across Karnataka, which suits the needs of IT companies in particular.

Usha Chandrashekar, Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, attributes it to the opening up of new possibilities through Same Day Delivery (SDD) for articles booked under premium products, besides Speed Post, Express Parcel, and Business Parcel.

“We have met the much-felt demand from all the ecommerce players and customers for a time-specific, especially same day, delivery of consignments. We are planning to introduce the facility to tier-II cities in a phased manner,” she said. Apart from e-commerce players, government departments, banks, financial institutions, and educational institutions use their services, she added.

Speaking to The Hindu , an Amazon spokesperson described India Post as a “valued partner” which had helped the e-commerce player “connect with 19,000 PIN codes across the country.”

“India Post’s online tracking system allows customers to access tracking informing and confirm the delivery of the valuable items by using the tracking number assigned to the customer at the time of booking. Its success rate was 90 per cent last year,” she claimed.

E-commerce has also helped the Karnataka Circle in the changeover to a considerable extent. Its postal and financial services such as e-post, e-billing, retail post, logistic post, media post, mutual funds, and money transfer have been in great demand.
