Judge, AAB president exchange heated words

June 12, 2010 05:16 pm | Updated 05:16 pm IST - BANGALORE:

In what could be described as an unprecedented incident, the president of the Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB), K.N. Putte Gowda, on Friday joined issue with a judge when the latter made some remarks against young advocates.

Justice Rammohan Reddy, who was hearing a case, remarked on the conduct of young advocates.

He took to task the young advocates for their failings. When he mentioned the role of some advocates in November last when they went on a rampage on the High Court premises, Mr. Putte Gowda took objection to the remarks.

Both Justice Reddy and Mr. Putte Gowda began arguing and the exchange went on for some time in front of a jam-packed court hall.

Regretted

Senior advocate and convener of the Karnataka chapter of the Forum for Judicial Accountability, Pramila Nesargi, regretted the incident and said such things should never happen in a court of law.

She said courts are considered as temples of justice and they should have a congenial atmosphere if advocates are to argue cases.
