HC says it will not interfere in demolition of Plaza cinema

March 30, 2010 04:45 pm | Updated November 18, 2016 10:57 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected an application by Shravani Developers, owners of the building housing the erstwhile Plaza cinema, to stay the judgment permitting Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to take over the premises on Mahatma Gandhi Road here for the Namma Metro project.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Mohan Shantangouder passed the order on an application by Shravani Developers.

The company said that an earlier Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopala Gowda and Justice N. Ananda had a week ago dismissed petitions by it and others challenging the Namma Metro project.

It said that after the judgment, BMRCL officials took over the building and began demolishing it for the construction of a metro railway station. It urged the Bench to stay the earlier order so that it could file an appeal before the Supreme Court.

The Bench said it did not find any cause to interfere and dismissed the application, thus paving the way for BMRCL to continue demolition of the building.
