Bengaluru: In a relief to people living around 100 feet road in HAL 2nd stage at Indiranagar, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday restrained both the State and its authorities, and Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris from holding any ‘open street festival’ by closing this road for traffic on January 15.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Budihal R.B. passed the interim order on a PIL petition filed by 76-year-old C. Dinakar, a former director-general & inspector-general of police.

The bench restrained holding of the event after being informed that the State government is neither conducting nor sponsoring the festival.

Meanwhile, a counsel representing Mr. Haris told the court that there is only a proposal to hold such an event, which has now been kept in abeyance.

The petitioner had alleged that the festival is a personal event promoted by Mr. Haris. He claimed that it would pose serious inconvenience to residents as well as others while alleging the festival ‘is a money-making proposition which will cause harassment to the residents’.
