HAL's wall collapses in rain

November 06, 2010 04:15 pm | Updated 04:15 pm IST - Bangalore:

In the heavy rain that lashed the city Thursday evening, a portion of HAL's Aerospace Division compound wall collapsed, causing minor injuries to a two-wheeler rider.

The wall, adjacent to the G.M. Palya Main Road near Jagadishnagar, skirts the congested road and this resulted in a huge traffic pile-up.

According to Prakash T., a G.M. Palya resident, the wall gave way around 7.30 pm. “This is the second time the same portion has collapsed. Although there have been no casualties this time, we are worried it might fall on a pedestrian,” said Mr. Prakash, who is the president of C.V. Raman Nagar branch of Jaya Karnataka Sangha.

He said the residents planned to stage a protest demonstration on Saturday.

When contacted, officials in HAL's Corporate Communications division said they were not aware of the collapse.

Tree fall

While the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike control rooms did not record any rain-related damage, eyewitnesses told The Hindu a tree fell on Suranjandas Road in C.V. Raman Nagar, crushing the rear portion of a car. No one was injured. Another tree fall was reported at Geetanjali Layout in Bangalore East.
