Fog made a surprise appearance at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday, delaying several flights in the morning. The last instance of fog at KIA occurred on February 15, the second day of Aero India.
According to officials, 46 flight departures and 25 arrivals were delayed as the airport shut operations between 5:09 a.m. and 5:50 a.m., and again between 6:35 a.m. and 7:28 a.m. Two flights had to be diverted to other cities.
KIA sees more than 50 flights departing between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. At present, the runway is closed every day between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to carry out upgrade work. Partial operations are possible on some days.
As a result, the morning flights out of the city see a lot of passenger traffic. This year, there have been several disruptions owing to fog, which also led Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. to issue a fog advisory on its website asking people to prepare for fog-related delays till February 15.
