Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s elder son, Rakesh, who has fallen ill while on a tour of Europe, has been hospitalised in the University Hospital Brussels in Belgium.
Mr. Siddaramaiah, who told reporters here on Wednesday that his son’s condition was “critical but stable”, is leaving for Belgium by an early morning flight on Thursday.
“He is undergoing treatment in the University Hospital Brussels. I have spoken to the doctors and they have told me he is critical but stable. I will go there by a 4.30 a.m. flight on Thursday,” he said.
The news broke when the Chief Minister’s social media managers tweeted about Mr. Rakesh’s ill health, on his official account on Wednesday.
Sources close to the Chief Minister said Mr. Rakesh was suffering from a pancreatic ailment and was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday. He was in the intensive care unit (ICU) and recovering, sources said.
Mr. Rakesh left for a Europe tour early last week along with his friends.
Soon after the Chief Minister heard about his son’s hospitalisation on Tuesday, he spoke to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, seeking her assistance to ensure that his son gets the best treatment in Belgium.
The Chief Minister’s wife, his younger son Yathindra Siddaramaiah, and the family doctor Ravi Kumar have already left for Belgium.
