Salma’s body was found in Jellanakere lake in Mulbagal, Kolar district.

The body of a 28-year-old widow was found floating in a Mulbagal lake.

The deceased, Salma Babu, is the mother of two minor children. Her body was floating in Jellanakere lake on the outskirts of Mulbagal. There were no clothes. There were multiple injury marks. The police registered a case of unnatural death.

Police have learnt that Salma had been thrown out of the house by her in-laws after her husband Amjad Pasha, a scrap dealer, committed suicide due to financial problems.

She had shifted to her parents’ home, along with her children 8-year-old Taj and 6-year-old Sahil. Her parents took her to dargahs seeking a cure for her depression and insomnia, which she allegedly exhibited after her husband’s death, police said.

Was undergoing treatment

On May 26, Salma travelled to Bengaluru to meet her brother Nawaz, who is an auto driver in Bhoopasandra, as she was unhappy with the ‘treatment’ she received at a dargah.

Nawaz took Salma to Movement for Justice, an NGO that referred her to NIMHANS for treatment, an officer at Mulbagal police station said.

On May 28, her father Noor Mohammad Ali reached Bengaluru with a relative and took Salma back to Kolar against her wishes. On June 12, she went missing from her house. The family searched for her for two days. On June 14, her body was found in the lake, police said.

The police are awaiting the post-mortem report. “We suspect that it could be a case of murder and are waiting to question the family,” said a police officer.
