With hardly two weeks left for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council polls, candidates are racing against time to connect with the voters. They have no other go but to adopt a door-to-door campaign to win over their voters.
Although most aspiring candidates started groundwork for the polls much ahead of the announcement of the dates, they are finding it hard as they have very little time to campaign unlike in the previous years.
The fresh delimitation and subsequent reorganisation of the city segments has confused the candidates on the areas that come under the wards they wish to contest from. Even former corporators, the reservation of whose wards has not changed, are worried.
This has prompted the candidates to directly knock on the voters' doors. “We are trying to mobilise the support of milk and paper vendors and morning walkers. We are requesting these vendors to campaign on our behalf in the areas they serve. The idea is to get connected with each of the 53,800 voters in this new ward,” Mangala Sridhar, BJP candidate for Byatarayanapura, said. She represented Jogupalya in the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike council.
G. Krishnappa, Congress aspirant from Cauveripura, said although most of the areas in this new ward are the ones that were in Govindrajnagar that he earlier represented, he has to cover the entire area personally.
S. Prakash, BJP candidate for Dattreya Temple ward, has posted his campaign details on Facebook, a social networking site.
With less than two weeks to go for polling day, the candidates seeking to enter the portals of the BBMP have miles to cover in a short span of time.
