Bengaluru: The three prominent persons who organised the Madison Square Garden event in New York where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed over 20,000 people in 2014, are among the 30 who were conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday.

Dr. Bharat Haridas Barai, Mahesh Mehta and Ramesh Shah were part of the five-member committee that organised the public event. All three received the award in the ‘Community service’ category.

Chicago-based Dr. Barai is a physician and believed to be an old friend of Mr. Modi. Mahesh Mehta is the founder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad-America. Ramesh Shah is president of the Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP-USA).
