The city police on Saturday began investigating three new incidents of alleged attacks on women, taking the total number of molestation cases since the start of the year to nine. In two of the latest cases, the women approached the police to lodge a complaint.
In the past, women who had been harassed or molested would try to brush the incident aside and get on with their lives. The fact that they are coming to us is an encouraging sign, say the police.
“It is a positive development and will help us to take corrective measures,” said Malini Krishnamurthy, Additional Commissioner of Police (West).
One of the complainants is a 22-year-old woman who works in a multinational firm. She informed the police that she had been pawed by two bike-borne men on January 4 night while she was walking home from a gym in Banaswadi.
In the second case, a 25-year-old woman was assaulted by an unidentified man near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on January 2.
The police filed the third FIR based on media reports of a woman being assaulted during the New Year celebrations on M.G. Road.
