The forever colourful Ibrahim Saheb Street off Commercial Street looked more colourful on Thursday with many women mehndi artists from Rajasthan setting up shop.
The road was lined with women dressed in colourful Rajasthani clothes drawing intricate mehndi patterns on the hands of women. The demand for them was high because these artists work here only for a day prior to Id-ul-Fitr.
Rajan Bothi, one of the artists, said that they bring mehndi from their home State. "People here love our drawings," she said, adding that they charge Rs. 100 for drawings patterns on one hand (till the elbow). "That is less than what is charged in beauty salons," she added.
Shazina Nihar, who had come from Fraser Town, said she loves mehndi pattern on her hands. "I rushed to get mehndi done when I heard that people from Rajasthan were here," she said.
Vijayalakshmi Rajan, a homemaker from Nagavara, said she had come shopping to Commercial Street and decided to get her hand decorated on seeing the artists.
