AAB moves Governor on Dinakaran issue

June 26, 2010 10:59 am | Updated 10:59 am IST - BANGALORE:

The Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) has written to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj to use his good offices for a new Chief Justice to be posted to the Karnataka High Court.

The AAB has been in the forefront of a movement to transfer the incumbent, P.D. Dinakaran, from the Karnataka High Court.

In its letter on Friday, the AAB said it had passed a resolution opposing the continuance of Mr. Dinakaran and regretted that though the collegium had recommended his transfer to Sikkim, it appears to have been put on hold by the Union Government.

There is a vacuum in the High Court as the Chief Justice is not discharging his judicial functions. The court's image has been eroding owing to media coverage on the contentious issue.

Some of the judges of the High Court have been voicing their concern, a few even writing in newspapers. Such a situation, it said, should not be allowed to continue.
