More than 90 per cent of jobs generated in information technology, biotechnology, and other private industries located in 15 districts have been given to local people, says a survey by the Labour Department.

A survey has found that private industries have provided jobs to 67,343 people in 15 districts and 61,726 of them are Kannadigas. The survey will be taken up soon in major cities such as Bengaluru, Mysuru and Belagavi, which were not covered in the first phase.

The State Cabinet has asked the department to submit a detailed report on the district- and sector-wise employment status of Kannadigas in the private sector, Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parameshwar Naik told reporters here on Friday.

The survey was conducted in Mandya, Chickballapur, Shivamogga, Udupi, Vijayapura, Hubballi, Gadag, Davangere, Chitradurga, Yadgir, Koppal, Raichur, Ballari, Kalaburagi, and Bidar.
