Bhuvan Vishnu Kumar is the city’s best seven-year old karate expert. At a recent international championship in Serbia, he beat children from 46 countries to win the gold medal while Shreya Satish, also from Bengaluru, clinched the bronze.
“I lost just one point during the entire competition. I enjoy karate a lot. I practised really hard,” said Bhuvan.
His grandfather Krishnappa encouraged him to learn karate.
“It has even helped him to focus on other things. He is occupied three times a week for an hour and comes back home very happy,” says the proud grandfather.
Rajendran K., a karate expert who teaches children preparing to compete on the world stage, says that these two children were special from the beginning.
“These two have been with me in training for almost three years. They have always shown more discipline,” he says.
People from all age groups were competing at the 23rd SKDUN World Shotokan Karate Championship. “The 8th SKDUN Kohai world cup was specifically for children,” he said, adding that the parents took care of the expenses and accompanied the children to Serbia.
