30-year-old woman ends her life following domestic row in Bengaluru

A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze over a domestic row after while her husband received severe burns when he tried to save her. The incident took place on Wednesday in their residence at Mariyappanapalya in Ramanagar in Bengaluru Rural district.

The deceased, Divya Jyothi, was married Virendra around seven years ago. They were working in a government factory in Rajagopalnagar and had two children.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple used to fight frequently. One such quarrel took place on Wednesday around 12.30 a.m. after the couple returned home from work. It became a heated argument and, in a fit of rage, Divya Jyothi grabbed kerosene kept in the kitchen and doused herself. On seeing her set herself ablaze, Virendra tried to save her.

Noticing the commotion, neighbours rushed to their house and shifted them to Victoria hospital where Divya Jyothi was declared dead on arrival while Virendra is undergoing treatment. The children of the couple were in their grandparents’ house in Peenya at the time of the incident. The Kumbalgodu police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the exact reason for her taking the extreme step.
