Twenty-eight scrapped cars belonging to Meru Cabs that were parked in a yard at Kadubeesanahalli were gutted on Monday.

Regional Fire Officer C. Gurulingaiah said that seven fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire, which broke out around 3 p.m. at scrap yard of Meru Cabs. The officials suspect that dry grass grown in the yard came in contact with fire and later spread.

Swift action by the fire personnel helped contain the fire, which otherwise could have spread to over 200 cars which were parked in the yard, a senior officer of the Fire and Emergency Services said adding that no casualties have been reported .
